You were always the indisputable head of our family. Even as you nonchalently and joyfully filled your days with golf and socialising, you never quite took your eye off the ball. You would always keep appraised of the ocurrences in all of our lives and you were always able and willing to offer us your considered advice about almost any subject or matter.
You were the ballast that steadied our keels, that maintained each of our life's courses. You guided us whenever our paths would stray close to hazards or perils and steered us once again into clear and peaceful waters.
But now you are gone and we all struggle not to flounder.
The void without you is extreme, our courses are now uncertain and our destinations unknwn.
Your humour and wisdom are so desperately missed and it is still so difficult to believe that you are truly gone.
I believe that you visited with us for a brief period: within the guise of another.
We witnessed your wry grin and certain smile; your benvolent composure and affable eyes.
Was your visit to send a message, or just to let us know that you still cared for and guided us?
Whatever the reason, it was great to see you and I am certain that you are aware of your lifelong presence within our hearts and minds.
I miss you greatly Dad and know that some time in the future we will once again share a beer (or a brandy) and many laughs too.
